About the Course
The course is designed as a foundation course basically for non-Social Science students. The content is designed in a non-conventional manner. It is anchored in the foundational values that inform the constitutional framework and form the bedrock of Indian democracy. These are: Justice, Liberty, Equality and Fraternity as stated in the Preamble. The course uses four pathways to introduce these foundational values. These are Constituent Assembly Debates, Articles of the Constitution, Court Judgements and current political issues. The course seeks to throw light on the relation between the individual and the state, tensions between different principles of the Constitution, and conflicts between different institutions of government. At the end of the course, students will have a critical appreciation of the principles, framework, and the working of the Indian constitution.
